Dear parents/caregivers,
This term in Visual Art, the Ara Teina children will be
exploring concepts of construction as they first learn how to make a 3D house from
cardboard using a template, then bake and decorate an edible gingerbread house
– from scratch!
Students will explore 2D and 3D shapes, nets and templates,
develop cutting and piecing skills, and be given time to show their creative
flair while decorating their houses.
We would love you to assist us in creating these houses!
Here are a few examples of cardboard and real gingerbread
houses to give you an idea of what we’re planning to create with the children.
How you can help…
If
you can donate any of the following items we would be most grateful. PLEASE
SEND THESE IN TOMORROW.
- Either a medium sized cardboard box (please flatten it) OR a piece of firm card (around 40 x 30cm in size)
- Stickers, pom poms, pipe cleaners, and buttons that can be used to decorate the model house
- Hot glue sticks
- Masking tape
Tomorrow we will start constructing our
prototypes out of cardboard. We will
need parental assistance for this. We will be doing this during last block (2-3pm). If you are able to
help out with this please let me know.
