Gingerbread Men
As you might have heard, our gingerbread men have run away! We have been getting letters, postcards and emails from all around New Zealand and the world from people saying that they have seen our gingerbread men. We have been reading these in class but perhaps you would like to read them at home too!

Sharing Food At Arahoe
At Arahoe School drink or food treats/prizes may not be given out to children or classes. However, from time to time, classes may create and/or consume drink or food items as part of their learning programmes. When this occurs, parents will be informed of what children will be making and consuming. Your child's teacher will inform you well in advance of any planned shared lunch occasions. We understand that parents provide the food for their child, that they would like them to consume while they are at school.

Homework is starting this week.
Everyday your child will bring home a notebook in their book
bag. This will have their reading log in the front and their spelling words in
the back.
Each day your child will have two reading books. On Tuesday
one of these books will a library book. On Friday they will have their poems
book. On the days that your child has guided reading with me, they
will have that book. On the days that they don’t have reading with me, they
will have a book from their choosing box. These are free choice books so your
child might choose the same one multiple times or a book that is a lower level.
This is so they can enjoy their reading and increase their reading mileage.
Here is a great article about how to read with your child. Remember to make reading a fun experience - enjoy sharing this time with your child!
Spelling words are in the back of the homework book. Please
practice these at least 3 times a week.
OTHER NOTES…
Our library day is now TUESDAY.
No swimming for the next two weeks due to Ara Pakeke
SkillsforLife programme. This will recommence March 5th.

Measurement
Today Room 24 learnt about measurement. We used words like short, shorter, shortest and tall, taller, tallest. We discovered some things around the school and then put them in height order.
We also used our hands and feet to measure the basketball court and objects in our classroom.

Welcome to Room 24!
Welcome to Room 24!
Here’s some important information about our class.
Spare Clothes – Please bring in a set of spare clothes for your child in case we have any incidents. These can be named and kept in a plastic bag on hooks in the cloak bay.
Hats – Arahoe has a ‘No Hat - No Play’ policy during Term 1 and 4. Children without hats will not be allowed to play in the sun during intervals and lunch. Please ensure hats are named.
Tissues – Everyone is going to have a sniffle at some point this year. Please bring in a box of tissues so that we can stay as healthy as possible.
Swimming – Our swimming time for Term 1 is Thursday afternoon (2-2:40) each week. Please send your child to school with togs and towel no matter what the weather is like, in case it becomes fine for the afternoon. Ensure all uniforms and clothes are named.
E-mail – Everything that parents and caregivers need to know this year will be posted here on our blog. Occasionally there will be an important notice which I will be emailing out. Please send me an email at meganc@arahoe.school.nz so I can add your address to this important contact list.
If you ever need to contact me or have any questions feel free to come in before school. You can also e-mail me at the above address.
Thanks, I look forward to a great year of learning in Room 24.
