Statistics

On Wednesday we talked with Mrs De Jong about tally charts. We can use tally charts to record information which we call data.
Yesterday we made our own tally charts. We started with a question: How many stars are there on different flags from around the world?

We stuck the stars on each row.

Then we counted the stars on each flag and put a tally mark next to the right number.

Don't our finished tally charts look great?

Weaving

Yesterday we did some weaving.

First we cut the paper.

Then we carefully wove it together. Our pattern was over, under, over, under.

On Monday we will write a story about how weaving came about.

Winter

Kia ora parents and caregivers,

The weather seems to have turned on us and winter is fast approaching!
It would be appreciated if each child could bring in a box of tissues so we can keep our germs to ourselves.

Here's a website that you can use with your child to discuss sneezing 'safely'.
Follow this link, then click on the virtual sneeze.

Image result for board gamesWet lunchtimes are inevitable during winter. Children are welcome to bring board or card games into school to keep themselves entertained during these lunchtimes. These will be kept in the locked cupboard while not being used. Keeping the game in a box or bag and naming pieces would also be helpful. Games will be sent home later on in the year.

Gingerbread

Our gingerbread men must have heard that we were making houses. Guess who showed up today?

Digging in!

The aftermath.

Gingerbread Houses

Today we finished making our gingerbread houses! They look awesome! Even though some of them didn't stay standing for long, they will still taste good. A big thank you to our Room 1 buddies and our parents that came in to help: Catrien, Miranda, Lisa, Ying Tong, Maddie's Nana, Jenny and Karishma.

Yesterday we had a visit from some baby rabbits. Thanks Isabel! Room 24 thought they were fluffy, little and soft.

ANZAC Day

Tomorrow (Thursday) at 1pm, the school will be holding an ANZAC commemoration on the field outside Room 7. Parents are welcome to come along if they wish.

Blends

Our blend of the week is fl.
Today the Seahorses made some cool 'fl' words using pipe cleaners. Great job Aaron, Francine, Melanie and Kayla!

ANZAC Day

As you may have heard from your child, we have been looking at ANZAC Day throughout this week.

As part of our learning we made poppies and a wreath. We have also been looking at the Ode of Remembrance (in poem books). They all seem very interested in the history surrounding the wars and the people involved.

It would be great if you could take time to discuss this at home. Ask your child what we have been talking about in class and see if they have any questions. If your family has a personal connection to anyone who was involved in either World War (perhaps a great-grandfather) I'm sure they would be interested in hearing about them.

Here is a video about poppies which you may like to watch with your child to spark some conversation.

Arahoe Mud Run!

Gingerbread Houses

Kia ora parents,

Welcome back to Term 2. This week we will be finishing our gingerbread unit by baking our houses. We will be baking them on Thursday 10:30 -12 and decorating them on Friday 10:30 -12. Having 2-3 parent helpers for each of these sessions would be really helpful. If you can help at one or both, comment below or let me know before Thursday.

Also for our gingerbread houses, we have the ingredients for the gingerbread and icing but it is up to us to bring in decorations. The children all have ideas about what sorts of lollies they want on their houses for specific purposes. If they would like to bring in a small amount of lollies or other edible decorations over the next few days, that would be great! Lollies without wrappers would be preferable.

Thanks
